CHANGES

  • Germany: A series of small piggy banks was added. They are from the former German border city of Bunzlau. And from the green series from Thüringen.

  • History: There were no piggy banks before the 14th century was my assumption. Which proved to be wrong. The oldest piggy bank in Germany was discovered in Billeben in Thüringen and has been dated to the 13th century. One can see it in the Museum für Ur- und Frühzeitgeschichte in Weimar, Germany. Text and picture are added.
  • Netherlands: One of the Makkum piggy banks I bought late 2014 is identified. It's from earthenware factory Hendrik van der Wal in Makkum. On 10-2015 I bought a rare Frisian piggy bank hallmarked Midlum.
  • Reference books: A page with piggy banks/ still banks related books was added (2014-11). Interested in exclusive Dutch literature on piggy banks? See the relevant pages on my Dutch piggy bank site .
  • The Quimper page is updated. Click on the pictures and you see more of the shown piggy banks including hallmarks.
  • A new version of my website program "made me" renew some pages. Some new pig piggy banks were added.

RESTAURATION
Experts don’t agree on if one is allowed to restore antique and/ or vintage objects. We do it, certainly with piggy banks. But in such a way that the process is reversible. Looking at the results you can imagine why we prefer to restore.
But you mentioned “I only buy piggy banks in mint condition”. Yes I still do. But that’s not always possible for rare antique/ vintage piggy banks. Of course we examine at forehand if the damages are restorable. If so, we buy.
